Dr. Enrique Florescano Mayet is the national coordinator of historical projects for Mexico's National Council for Culture and the Arts. He received a Ph.D. in history from the École Pratique des Hautes Études at the University of Paris and a Masters in the same discipline from El Colegio de México. He has authored numerous books and articles on a diversity of topics relating to Mexican history including the pre-hispanic past, historiography, economic and social histories, memory, symbols, myths, identities. His most important works include Precios del maíz y crisis agrícolas en México, 1708-1810, Origen y desarrollo de los problemas agrícolas en México, 1500-1821, Memoria mexicana, El nuevo pasado mexicano and El mito de Quetzalcóatl. He has recieved many prizes including the the National Prize for Social Science and la Ordre National du Mérite given by the French government. He is a member of the Mexican National System of Investigators.
